Launching the Study Center, Center for Religious Studies (CARE), in Peace Reflection Event

In an effort to revive the academic culture of religious studies, the Religious Studies Program has inaugurated a study center. CARE or Center for Religious Studies was inaugurated by Dr. Inayah Rohmaniyah, S.Ag. M.Hum., M.A as the Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought, in the Smart Room, Friday, 16/12/2022.

The Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin expressed his great hope that CARE could become an inclusive forum that fights for humanist, tolerant and pluralist values. With the presence of CARE as a study center, it is hoped that it will be able to encourage wider cooperation with other communities or private institutions, such as the Simpul Lintas Iman Community (SIM-C) or the Youth, Interfaith and Peace Center (YIPC), etc. So that interfaith relations, dialogue, and cooperation can be achieved in a sustainable way.

Dr. Dian Nur Anna, S.Ag., M.A, as the head of the study program, expressed hope and prayer that this first step of interfaith cooperation could be continued. The charter was given symbolically to Mrs. Siti Khodijah Nurul Aula, M.Ag, as the head of this study center. The event was then followed by a group photo and peace reflection activities.

The Peace Reflection with the theme "Continuing the Example of Jesus (Islamic-Christian Perspective)" was moderated by Ms. Ester Nurhana Kusumawati, representing YIPC Yogyakarta. This Peace Reflection was also enriched by interesting discussions from the two speakers, namely: Dr. Ustadi Hamsah, S.Ag., M.Ag., head of the Master of Religious Studies program, and Dr. Andreas Jonathan, Director of the UKRIM Center for Religion and Peace Studies.

The discussion was enlivened not only by students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, but also students from Immanuel Christian University (UKRIM), Indonesian Evangelical Theological College Yogyakarta (STTII), and from YIPC.

The conclusion of this peace reflection discussion sees that Jesus Almasih is present as a noble and highly respected figure in Islam and Christianity. Muslims understand Prophet Isa as the successor of the teachings of the previous apostles to spread love. He is mentioned 25-32 times in the Quran. Other names are also attributed to him such as Kalimah (3:39); Ruh (2:87; 2:253); Rahmah (19:117); Model/Matsal (3:59; 43: 57-59). Jesus' willingness to serve all people is proof that He is a loving person. It is also our duty to emulate Jesus as much as possible as the current generation. Developing love, being open, and bonding with the brotherhood of fellow human beings. The activity was then closed with a discussion, question and answer session, and the delivery of "Peace Camp" information from YIPC.
