Students of Religious Studies Study Program are also involved in the committee of the 2nd International Student Conference (ISC). The Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (FUPI) UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held an International Student Conference (ISC) event on the FUPI campus, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, 30-31/2021. This year is the second implementation of ISC, and presents speakers from across the country, with the theme "Religion and Disruptive Technologies in the Digital Age". The speakers presented at this conference were Dicky Sofjan, Ph.D (Gadjah Mada University), Dr. Baptiste Brodard (Postdoctoral Fellow of Universidad Veracruzana, Mexico), Muammar Zayn Qadafy, Ph.D., candidate of Albert Ludwig University Germany), Dr. Kholoud al-Ajarma (The University of Edinburgh) and Finsensius Yuli Purnama (Doctoral Student of UGM, Lecturer at Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University WMSCU).
The Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Phil Al Makin, MA, in his remarks expressed his happiness and gratitude to the invited speakers, conference participants and especially the Faculty of Ushuludin and Islamic Thought and the entire committee for the implementation of this ISC 2021 activity. Prof. Al Makin explained that the speed of information in today's era provides challenges as well as opportunities.
"If we see all of them as challenges, then they are challenges. However, if we see these disruptions as an opportunity, then these things are opportunities." Prof. Al Makin urged us to see challenges also as opportunities, by taking the good things that can be utilized. We can utilize the speed of information to find literature that can broaden our horizons and support lecture activities, such as UIN Sunan Kalijaga which has 85 journals that can be accessed online through the UIN Sunan Kalijaga E-Library. Prof. Al Makin also provides motivation that there are many "doors" if we want to broaden our perspective, see problems with various alternative solutions, as long as we can focus. "If we are confused about something, then we will get lost," said Prof. Phil Al Makin.
As an intellectual, UIN Sunan Kalijaga academics must increase literacy by reading various journals, at least the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Journal, and endeavor to improve language skills by increasing confidence in using foreign languages. There are many ways to learn, there are many media, use the opportunities available to increase your capacity in this fast-paced era.
Dr. Inayah Rohmaniyah, S.Ag., M.Hum., M.A. said that the International Student Conference is an annual activity carried out by the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and this year is the second year of the ISC. In addition to ISC, the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought also organizes various international-scale activities such as the Ushuluddin International Conference (USICON), and the IAT Summer School to achieve the vision of being superior and leading in the integration and development of keushuluddinan and scientific studies for civilization. Become a faculty that has the best reputation on a national scale and is equivalent to global standards.
