Get to Know Buddhism Closer in a Guest Lecture

Monday, November 28, 2022 several religious studies students explored Buddhism in a guest lecture at the Smart Room, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought. This guest lecture is part of the Buddhism course taught by Mr. Derry Ahmad Rizal, M.A.
The event was opened by the Head of the Department of Religious Studies, Dr. Dian Nur Anna, S.Ag. M.A, who expressed excitement that students would not only benefit from reading textbooks but also have the opportunity to interact directly with the speakers.
Mr. Anton Jason, M.A, as the resource person, explained the core teachings of Buddhism in general, which emphasize care, wisdom, and love. Buddhists believe that Nibbana, the disappearance of suffering, is the ultimate goal in their lives. Getting to Nirvana/Nibbana is not achieved through one path alone, but through many paths. With no restrictions in Buddhism to interpret the core teachings, there are various schools of Buddhism, although diverse, their goal is still one, to reach Nibbana.
After giving an introduction, the event continued with a discussion and question and answer session. The students who attended were quite active and eager to discuss. Discussions such as this will hopefully answer basic questions and concerns in Buddhism courses and allow for deeper explorations.
Mr.Anton, representing Bodhicitta Maitreya Monastery, said to always be humble, open, and wise in dealing with every matter. "Humble yourself so that you can see the whole truth. Do not limit yourself with arrogance," he concluded.
