Description The Orientalism-Occidentalism course is a Special Supporting Core course, discussing the scientific scope of Western and Islamic relations. With the background of the study of orientalism which has developed rapidly, there are several points that can be studied, researched and criticized regarding the study of the term Orient or East. Responses to the study of Orientalism can be found in several opinions of both Islamic and Western scholars which are useful for the development of contemporary Orientalism studies. The various distortions, biases and prejudices that cannot be avoided in the study of Orientalism must therefore be studied, as is the case in the study of Occidentalism which has emerged. The relationship between Islam and the West can thus be constructively pursued with the efforts of academic authority and scientific integrity to criticize the scientific position of Orientalism-Occidentalism according to the zeitgeist or spirit of the times. Academically, Orientalism-Occidentalism has developed beyond its dichotomous categories into the scientific realm of Islamic studies
