Description This course is one of the components of the Community Life Course which is given in all study programs/departments in the faculties within UIN Sunan Kalijaga Jogjakarta. This course is given with the aim of giving students basic knowledge about other religions outside their own religion as well as several signs about lifestyle patterns in a religious pluralist society. In accordance with the name of this course, the study of religions in this lecture will focus on the historical approach of each religion, including knowledge about the growth and development of its teachings. From this introduction to different religions, it is hoped that it will become a means for students to become aware of the existence of adherents of different religions and foster an attitude of mutual respect and appreciation for each other's beliefs. The main materials discussed are: The relationship between humans and religion from historical perspectives and the Koran; Meaning, methods, theories, aims & uses of History of Religions; Indigenous religions of the archipelago: characteristics, forms, basis of legality; Types of Native Religions of the Archipelago: Sunda Wiwitan, Kejawen; Hinduism: understanding, growth, entry theory in Indonesia, sources of teachings, concept of divinity; Basic framework, rituals, principles of faith, Path to Salvation, holy places & days, religious organizations; Buddhism: Definition, growth, flow, teachings & moral principles, holy days, spread in Indonesia; Islam: meaning, characteristics, teaching principles, growth, spread in Indonesia; Christianity: definition, background, main doctrines, Scripture, Church history; Catholic Christianity: definition, sources & main doctrines, growth, spread in Indonesia, holidays & institutions in Indonesia; Protestant Christianity: definition, characteristics & differences from Catholicism, spread & institutions in Indonesia; The largest Protestant Christian sects and denominations in Indonesia; Confucianism, and, the phenomenon of the emergence of new beliefs.
